Joe Peyronnin: Christie’s Big Decision

Posted under Uncategorized on Friday, September 30th, 2011 at 10:32 pm

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie will spend the weekend considering whether to declare his candidacy for president. Should he enter the GOP race he will have committed one of the biggest flip-flops ever, and many Americans will be asking, "What changed?"

For months the governor has been adamant that he will not run for the White House in 2012. Up to now the governor has repeatedly said on television, "I am not ready to be president." Should he declare his candidacy he will be seeing that soundbite in a lot of campaign commercials.

But now what has changed is the intensity with which supporters and some leading party members are clamoring for him to enter the race. It seems that many Republicans are not happy with their existing field of candidates.

Google Chrome on track to overtake Firefox in 2011 (Digital Trends)

Digital Trends - According to data provided by StatCounter, Google Chrome is currently in position to rise above Mozilla’s Firefox and become the second most popular Web browser by December 2011. Google’s aggressive advertising for the speedy browser has helped growth over 2011. Starting with 15 percent of the market share in January 2011, Google’s current market share has risen to 23.6 percent as of September 2011. Google’s rapid gain in market share is likely attributed to users defecting from Internet Explorer and Firefox. Microsoft’s user share has dropped from about 46 percent at the start of the year down to 42 percent and Mozilla’s user share has dropped a little over five percent in the same time period. Rick Perry: ‘I’m Not The Smoothest Politician’ (VIDEO)

Posted under Uncategorized on Friday, September 30th, 2011 at 8:03 pm

During an interview on Fox News on Friday, Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry was asked about criticism of his performance in the most recent primary debate.

"Obviously I’m not the best debater on the stage, that’s pretty obvious," said the Texas governor. "I’m not the smoothest politician. Here is what Americans know about me, is I know what I believe in."

On the heels of the forum, which was held in Orlando, Florida, Perry finished in second place in the Sunshine State's presidential straw poll behind former Godfather's Pizza CEO Herman Cain. Many expected the Lone Star Republican to come out on top in the event and Perry spokesman Mark Miner acknowledged afterwards that the governor's debate performance was a factor in the outcome of the contest.

The tough stance by Democratic members of the powerful 12-member congressional panel reflects the party's wariness that Republicans might try to sideline the issue of revenue increases in the negotiations.

Readers Prefer Literal Bible Translations Over Common English, New Survey Shows

Posted under Uncategorized on Friday, September 30th, 2011 at 4:35 pm

With several new English-language Bible translations that have been published in recent years -- including ones that use gender-neutral and conversational language -- it might be said that Americans are tired of reading the King James-style Bible of yore. But a survey of Bible readers released Friday says that Americans largely prefer literal translations of the books' original Greek and Hebrew texts as opposed to ones that try to convey the intent of the original words.

The survey, conducted by Nashville-based Lifeway Research, found that when Bible readers were asked if they prefer “word-for-word translations, where the original words are translated as exactly as possible,” or “thought-for-thought translations, where the translators attempt to reproduce the intent of the original thought rather than translating the exact words,” 61 percent chose word-for-word.

In order to be part of the survey, the 2,000 readers, who were polled through an online panel that demographically represented the Christian population in the United States, had to already read the Bible at least once a month on their own or as part of a family activity, and not only in a church or worship setting.
